About Us

 Thomas Ahlers

 Thomas Ahlers

Having started kayaking at the age of 8 years it was inevitable that Thomas would become a kayak teacher and river trip guide. His experience lies in 30 years of kayaking down all kinds of rivers and levels of whitewater; from extreme descents in the Alps to international kayak expeditions in locations such as South America, Siberia, Africa and South East Asia. Having paddled over 700 rivers worldwide, Thomas' whitewater knowledge and experience is at the top of his field.

Thomas is a certified VDKS-kayak teacher (German Kayak teacher & river leader qualification), and believes in a course concept where not just the group, but the individual is central. This is based on the understanding that everyone learns at their own speed, own understanding and with it have their own personal targets. Thomas has the ability to teach those who wish to use all river levels, from extreme whitewater, to those preferring the more gentle world, introducing new paddlers to the sport of kayaking.

Thomas is bilingual being proficient in both his native German and English.

For 20 years Thomas has been leading courses and guiding trips in all parts of the European Alps including Germany, France, Austria, Italy, Slovenia, and across Europe including Montenegro, Bosnia, Croatia, Albania, Greece, Spain and Corsica. International trips have included Ecuador, Morocco, New Zealand and big water trips on the African Zambezi River.

In addition to kayaking Thomas works as a Sport & Communication Coach in business seminars and outdoor training where he teaches practical experienced-based learning.

Miranda Odam RN MPH

Miranda supports TAK kayak trips through co-organisation, logistics (being at the put ins and take outs at the right time and hopefully right place!), and camp cooking when necessary.

Over the last years Miranda has returned to the water and is slowly developing her whitewater kayaking skills. "For me it is not just the kayaking that's fun, it is the outdoor nature of the work - traveling to places that most tourists/travelers miss. Pristine rivers surrounded by magnificent mountains, and adorable cafes for a post-paddle cappuccino. And the laid back yet dynamic approach to adventure trips."

By profession Miranda is a Registered Nurse working in Emergency/A&E with extensive experience working in remote locations, and currently registered in the UK and Australia.
