Piemont, Turin Region Italy

The italian Piemont is well known for its classic steep creeking in the Sesia Valley close to the Lago Maggiore. Of the same quality, but very unkown are the rivers west of it, in the high mountain ranges around the city of Turin. Hidden here are some of the best new creek "discoveries" of the last years. In very remote valleys you will find creeks as good and challenging as Tessin or Corsica. For all who like to be off the beaten track this is the trip to go...

Planned is a choice of the following rivers (depending on water levels):

Chiusella, Soana, Pellice, Germanasca, Masello, Stura di Ala and others

Lienz, East Tirol, Austria

In September the rivers Isel, Defferegenbach, Kalser Bach and Tauernbach offer high quality steep creeking. All whitewater river trips are surrounded by the highest mountains of Austria; Grossglockner and Grossvenediger, and are fed by their glaciers. While in summer this usually provides high water levels due to the glacial melt, in September the water levels are low enough to run some of the challenging parts through sporty gorges and high altitude Alpine valleys. For steep creeking a classical late summer/autumn area. The river stretches are rather short, but high in quality and take time to scout & navigate! See Gallery

Rhone and Aosta Valleys, Italy & Switzerland

These two valleys are the largest in the Alps, and with the most water rich rivers and creeks. Paddling here means always surrounded by the stunning scenery of the highest mountains and biggest glacier of the entire European Alps. Because of this in summer the rivers here have high water levels and appear a muddy-brown, but in September the water levels start to moderate and the rivers take on an inviting appearance. The selection of rivers offered by these two valleys include a mixture of pushy wave trains and technical rapids. Depending on the water level at the time of the course we choose between the following rivers:

Rhone Gorges, Visp, Lonza, various Dora Baltea-parts, Grand Evia, Urtier, Valnontey Rivers. See Gallery

Many technical rapids for intermediates and experienced kayakers are coming up while exploring this special area. And some scenic surprises like the Troegener Bach are waiting... See Gallery

Tributaries of the Salza River & Erlauf/Oetscher Gorges, Austria

Austrias Wild East, where the mountains are lower but many creeks still steep.

A great seasonal beginning for strong intermediates and experienced whitewater kayakers. When usually everywhere else the water levels are still low, here the snowmelt is already running. The combination of the gorges of the Oetscher creek and Erlauf River make a great adventure; because of the remote location a walk in is required... and is worth every step! This is one of the most scenic, if hidden trips of Austria. In addition the Oetscher Gorge has some challenging drops waiting as with some of the Salza tributaries. See Gallery

The Dolomites, Italy

Guided trip with some highlights of Alpine paddling.

In the maybe most spectacular and unique mountain scenery of the Alps are some real river gems waiting for intermediates and experineced whitewater kayakers. From the rock gardens of the Boite to the waterfalls of the Travignolo, each river has it’s own characteristic. The highlight will be probably the big ad hidden chasm of the Mae river, probably the longest and most beautiful chasm to paddle in the entire Alps. Although not too difficult to kayak, it is a great and enjoyable adventure! See Gallery

Zambezi River, Zambia

Open, fair and fantastic BIG water on one of the most famous whitewater kayaking rivers on Earth.

Experienced grade 4 kayakers with a good roll have no reason to be scared! The Zambezi offers fair lines through most main rapids and always end in big pools to rest and enjoy the scenery. Every rapid you don’t like the look of is portagable and then there is still enough left to have fun in the best way. Crocodiles are not a problem and all stopper holes you may have seen on videos can be easily avoided.

We will have a hostel or camping accomodation  as base for the whole week, from where we go for day trips on the river. Usually we will divide the river into two parts, with the upper one including the “bigger” rapids and the lower one with a bit more easy and straight forward rapids. The drives to and from the river through remote African bushland are always experiences on their own, with seeing occassionally some elephants and passing very rural hut villages with friendly people.

We will be always back in our accomodation in the town of Livingston at around 4pm. This gives us time to relax a bit before dinner at the pool or having a afternoon coffee in one of the many cafes in town. An enjoyable contrast to the days activity in the remote wilderness.

On the planned rest day you can either join a safari or visit the world famous Victoria Falls, some of the biggest in the world. This waterfalls are often the backdrop scenery for our put in! See Gallery

South Island, New Zealand

A two week guided whitewater kayak trip in one of the best paddling destinations worldwide. The many rivers are offering a choice for all skill levels, and this trip is suitable for intermediate to experienced paddlers. From open and easily accessible, to inaccessible and remote rivers, from gentle descents to steep creeking NZ has all variations of alpine whitewater kayaking. Some rivers are so hard to access a helicopter is required to transport all the kayaks and paddlers. The flight is fascinating in itself and leaves you hours from the nearest road or town.

Always set within breathtaking, wild and often rural scenery; the Fjords in the south with their huge rainforests are an exotic contrast to the Fjords of Norway, the beaches of the Abel Tasman National Park on the northwest coast are as pure as the Carribean. A land of contrast with a rich diversity of fauna, there are no poisonous land animals - unlike its neighbour Australia.

Parrots are met more often at the put ins than other kayakers! The south Island has a southern European climate and is considered to be the most beautiful end of the world.

Ardeche, Tarn and Var Gorges, French Alps

A combination of three of the most famous Gorges of France with the landscapes of two mountain ranges; the Cevennes and the Southern Maritime Alps. For all levels of kayakers there are interesting and enjoyable parts.

Starting in the Cevennes on the Tarn and Ardeche Rivers including some of their tributaries we head in the second half of this trip to the “Red Gorges” of the Var River. Some tributaries like Vesubie and Esteron adding here a few more Chasms and Gorges.

Tara and Aoos-Gorge, Montenegro & North Greece

The crown of Europe's Canyons!

A guided trip through the biggest and longest Canyons of Europe in stunning scenery. Many of these rivers are as beautiful as Soca!

The Tara Gorge will be a two-day overnight trip on turquois water like the Soca and 60km of open, mainly grade 2 and 3 whitewater. A scenic highlight in a kayakers career like the Verdon-Canyon, just easier to paddle and longer and deeper... Montenegro is a safe and stunning country to travel, with great mountain surroundings and cultural heritage. This trip includes kayak trips on various rivers on the way to and from the Tara Gorge, like Cetina and Una River in Croatia, Drina in Bosnia and other Rivers in Montenegro itself.

This trip can be combined with the “Bled and Northern Slovenia” course if the full experience is desired.

After the Tara Gorge you can finish or join for an additional highlight of European whitewater kayaking: the famous Aoos-Gorge in the northern Greece Pindos mountains. It is more difficult to paddel than Tara Gorge, but enjoyful and a great scenic and sporty adventure for solid grade 3 to 4 kayakers. If the water levels are in the medium range this will be also a two day trip.

This trip in total, brings kayakers to some of the most “exotic” places Europe can offer.

Montenegro is from North Slovenia/Soca Valley reached within a long days travel. Although we will stop to paddle some beautifull rivers on the way and give us a few more days time for the journey South. If you join for the Aoos Canyon, too, there is the optional idea to go back home from there via Italy, using one of the ferries between North Greece and Italy. We are happy to help and give advice here for your planning.

Planned rivers: Tara, Drina, Cetina, Una, Lim, Moracca, Aoos and others depending on water situation.
